Day 3 La Viña

This morning our team was excited to attend church at La Viña Jinotepe. We enjoyed familiar worship songs in Spanish as well as a sermon by pastor Marta. After service we had a pre lunch snack of pan (bread) with pasta de pollo (chicken salad) with the members of La Viña.

We were excited to learn about some of the outreach programs that La Vina Jinotepe has. They hold a school reinforcement and meal program a few days a week for children in the community. We met some college students who live at the church as part of their University Students program. They work with local high schools to help support students who show strong interest and promise in college, but lack the means to accomplish their goals. The church has two homes to house young men and women from the country side who are attending college locally. They provide house parents who shepherd the students, as well as financial support through room, board and tuition. We are excited to learn more about this adventure where a sister church is very practically showing love in their community.

After church we went to lunch with pastor Marta, her boyfriend Eddler, our translators, Ronnie, Cynthia, and Maribel, and our American missionary friends, Ted and Kelly. We had such a large group that we sat at two tables in the restaurant! Ted and Kelly house kids who have graduated from living at Brazos de Amor and are transitioning to life as an adult.

When we got back to Brazos, some of us rested and prepared for nightly house devotionals, while others played with the kids. We played tag, Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza, Uno, and even colored together! We had such a great time getting to know and make connections with the kids.

After some free time we ate dinner and then went to the three houses for nightly devotionals.

We closed off our evening with a team debrief on the porch in rocking chairs enjoying the cool evening breeze. Such a sweet way to end a very full day!
