On todays agenda was errands in town, roof construction and the staff retreat.
Early this morning Georgina and Emilio headed off with half of the Brazos staff for a day of retreat. Unlike previous years we were not responsible for content and had a Nicarguan women come and lead the staff through a day of team building activities. Emilio opened the day with day with worship in Spanish.

Meanwhile – Elaine, Shaina, Emeline and Kate headed off to town with Magda, the staff psychologist, to buy requested word books and sports equipment. Here is the report from Emeline – We had an adventure out in town today. First we took a taxi to Golazo Sports Store to look for new soccer balls for the kids at Brazos de Amor. Then we went to look for some activity books. We had to go to three different books store in search of activity books. The activity books were very inexpensive. Then we rode back to Arms of Love.

The rest of the team stayed on campus to start the roofing project. However, in Nicaraguan time supplies are sometimes not delivered as planned. The team spent the morning watching locals prep for the project and were delighted to spot a iguana in the trees. They also asked about the coconuts overhead and shortly thereafter a staff member had climbed a tree & gathered coconuts so they could taste fresh coconut water.

In the afternoon Wes, Lucas and Prescott were finally able to help do some prep work on the roofing project. The rest of the team spent time with resident kids playing more wild card games and offering mini manicures.

This evening we returned to the houses to offer devotions. Our team is divided into 3 sub groups. Given that this was our fourth devotion we were going to houses for the second time. It was wonderful to tailor our lessons now that we know the kids a bit better and understand them.
The team meeting tonight has been tough – 2 team members have rather suddenly come down with a stomach illnesses.
We are off to sleep. Tomorrow we will be running the community cares program again, attending the staff retreat as well as getting to work on the delayed roofing project.
